Oh week one, my nemesis. Easily the toughest week of the season to project stats and winners for. Why? Well what do we know for sure: nothing. We’ve watched the preseason and well, everyone seems to look good against third team defences. Also, it looks like Pierre Thomas is out for week one, just a heads up. So with little fanfare here we go:
1. Peterson @Cle- This should really be a no brainier here unless he somehow gets engulfed in Shaun Rogers’ Buick sized gut.
2. Jones-Drew @Ind - He just kills the Colts. Averaged 99 ypg on the ground and 65 ypg through the air in two games vs. Ind in ‘08.
3. Tomlinson @ Oak- 2 of 3 best games from last season came vs. the lowly Raiders. Couple that with the fact that he has owed multiple acres and copious amounts of mules for the historical owning he has had of the Raiders.
4. D. Williams vs. Phi- Last year’s number one performer deserves your faith for week one. Last game vs. the Eagles in ‘06 went for 175 total yards and a TD.
5. Turner vs. Mia- The Burner will scorch the fraudulent Dolphins in the opener on his home turf.
6. S. Jackson @ Sea - One of the best point per players in fantasy when healthy. He’s healthy right now, so except 100 yards and TD, maybe more.
7. Forte @ GB - My overall number 2 ranks low due to an average over two games vs the Packers last season. 68.5 ypg rushing , 3.5 ypc.
8. Gore @ Arz- average 97.5 ypg, TD vs. Arizona in ‘08
9. K. Smith @NO- Best review any Kevin smith has ever received. Lit up Saints last season despite the closeness of a 42-7 loss.
10. Jacobs vs. Wash- Avg 93.52 ypg but only one TD vs. Washington in ‘08
11. Slaton vs. NYJ - The “Stallion” should start the year off right in the Houston offence which will reach Juggernaut status this year.
12. Addai vs. Jax- Starting, healthy and playing a team that he scored twice against in his only appearance against them last season.
13. Bush vs. Det - We news that PT Cruiser isn’t playing, look for Bush to trim down the powerless Lions defence.
14. Parker vs. Ten- No Fat Albert clogging the middle for the Titans should allow Parker to run wild.
15. Westbrook @ Car- Never shys away from a big game but playing against an above average defence.
16. MB3 @TB- Barber 2.8 ypc vs. TB in ‘08 but now back to full strength.
17. C. Johnson @ Pit- 69 yards and a TD vs. PIT week 16 last year but needs to break a long one for significant value this week.
18. Rice vs. KC- Rice is fast and looking to break out. This week should be a sign of things to come this season.
19. T. Jones @ Houston- should be reasonably solid this week.
20. R. Brown @ ATL- Best chance here is to break one early because I see Miami passing to play catch up all week
21. Portis @ NYG- Why? I just really don’t like Portis at all. 53 ypg vs. NYG last year.
22. Grant vs. Chi- Tough D but 100 ypg and 2 TDs vs. Bears in ‘08. Still suffers from high levels of fumblitis though.
23. Benson vs. Den- Most weeks you’d rather have his life partner Hedges but vs a bad broncos D he’s worth a flyer.
24. Moreno @ Cin- We’ll really get to “ Know Sean” (PUN!!!) this week against the Bengals .
25. McFadden vs. SD- probably not the best option this week
26. Hightower vs. SF- combined for 25 yds in 2 games vs. SF last year. Could vulture a one yard TD or two though.
27. A. Bradshaw vs. Wash- Will be fresh vs. the ‘Skins after they’re beat up by Jacobs
28. F. Jones @ TB- He’s just a threat to be awesome every week due to high levels of Felix Jonesness.
29. White @ Pit- will he have any White Power left 30 pounds later?
30. F. Jackson @ NE - 4.38 ypc vs. NE last season with a 100 yard performance in the infamous “Dueling Uprights” game.
31. Lewis vs. Min- He is a starter. For now.
32. J. Jones vs. STL- could surprise vs. a poor Rams D
33. D. Brown vs. Jax- It’s going to be a high scoring game, why not?
34. Sproles @Oak- LT will eventually have to take a bathroom break to deal with those 50 yard runs.
35. L. Johnson @ Balt- Hahaha No. Although I have him ranked much higher in leagues that include aggravated battery as points.
Notables:
Mike Bell vs. Det- has value if Thomas is out
C Taylor @ Cle- could get in on the blow out
L. Washington @ Hous- He lives in the 1970s, loves to score
Maroney, Taylor, or BJ Green Ellis vs Buff- one should have a pretty good game
