Monday Recap

The true tragedy that comes with being a Bills fan is that you take no solace when your team is on their way to victory. Last night is just another example of the usual performance by the Bills: up 11 with slightly more than two minutes to play. So we get a Ben Watson touchdown followed by a failed conversion attempt. This is looking pretty good to tell you the truth, someone in the room, me, says, “as long as they don’t fumble here I think they have it”. Damn me and my ability to be so clairvoyant. Actually better yet, damn you Leodis McKelvin: you're a dream stealer. You think with a name that seems like some sort of Spartan/Irish hybrid he’d have a bit more fight in him. This is what being a Billls fan is all about, at least they play in exciting games. Anyways, this really has nothing to do with fantasy but with the constant embarrassment that comes with being a Bills fan. At least I have my beloved USC, they only blow one game a year.

Leodis McKelvin - Buffalo Bills
McKelvin? His Irish roots are questionable at best

Bills @ Pats

Brady, Moss and Welker all delivered on the projected big fantasy days… I got to give the Pats credit for their plan of making Ben Watson look so bad all game that the Bills’ secondary would just leave him uncovered late in the game. Watson turned in a legit 6-77-2 line and is only owned in about 12% of leagues. This was an excellent week for tight ends but Watson is definitely worth keeping an eye on to see just how involved he actually gets in this offence... Joey Galloway was nowhere to found on the field last night. Galloway will eventually have a game where he just gets behind everybody and nabs two touchdowns for 160 yards, he may even do it two or three times year, but this is the floor you are looking at. Until he strings together three good games in a row don’t bother with him at all. He’s droppable in all but the very deepest of leagues… Fred Taylor gets the TD, Maroney gets the most touches and Kevin Faulk seems like he’ll be at his best as a flex player in PPR leagues, 6-51. I really don’t think you want to chance any part of this backfield unless 2 or 3 of them go with injury, it turns out this backfield is much like life and boxes of chocolate.

Fred Jackson was great both running and catching the ball. Somehow that screen to Jackson was there all night despite the fact the Pats knew it was coming. He got the tough yards and looked like speed racer in open space and he even crossed the goal-line to have a huge night. I love Jackson this week at home against the Bucs… TO will eventually be a player in this offence, just not right now. Trent Edwards needs to take the next step first.

Chargers @ Raiders

JaMarcus Russell throws a really pretty deep ball. His hook up with rookie Louis Murphy on 4th and 2 with 2:34 left in the game was not only an excellent pass and catch but a flat out great call. Unfortunately that was the peak for Russell’s numbers… Looks like Michael Bush is back again this year to pillage carries and kill Run DMC’s value. Bush scored the touchdown and grabbed himself 13 touches. If you want the McFadden handcuff, it’s Bush not Fargas. I think he’s worth owning if you need some help at the flex or have bye week problems and he could really make an impact if McFadden goes down… Zach Miller lived up to the preseason hype as Russell’s only viable target. If you can get 10 points from him a week, like this week, he’ll be a top 3 option at TE.

The Chargers looked completely uninspired last night but all drafted fantasy options produced to some degree... Gates had 83 yards and Jackson hauled in a TD… The Riv also had a middle of the pack game with 252-and a TD… LT didn’t look good at all despite scoring a TD. .. Look for Sproles to get more and more work as he looked pretty good chipping in with 66 total yards and a TD. There are a bounty of fantasy points to go around on this Chargers offence but limit your exceptations this week with Baltimore rolling into town.
