Bad day to own Steve Slaton and Calvin Johnson. Slaton got benched after fumbling in the first quarter, ceding carries to Ryan Moats and Chris Brown. Moats made the most out of his opportunity and looks to cut into Slaton’s production from here on. Megatron played us all and missed the game with his bum knee. This was terrible news for all Johnson owners as it was his best match up of the season.
Joey Addai doesn't throw the best deep ball but when it's going to Reggie Wayne it can save your fantasy day.
Bonus for anyone who started Josh Brown at kicker, he passed to Daniel Fells for a TD in the Rams/Lions game.
In a day where I correctly picked the Raiders and Rams, I had by far my worst pick’em week of the year. Should have listened to my gut and picked the Dolphins and Panthers I guess.
Now that the Rams got their win they can now take the foot off the petal and cruise to a 1-15 season and the first overall pick in the draft. Steven Jackson (22-149-1) finally scored his first TD of the season. Despite the lone touchdown, Jackson has been about as consistent of a performer as there is; you can basically pencil him in for 100 yards a week. If he can start scoring touchdowns, he’ll finished as a top 5 running back this year.
Keeping with the NFC West, does anyone want to win this division? Seattle's defense continues to let them down every week. The Cardinals showed that they can really play with anyone, there is no team in football that continually plays to the level of their competition. The 49ers actually looked pretty good in their loss to the undefeated Colts. Alex Smith looks like he’s comfortable at the helm and seems to have developed a good rapport with Michael Crabtree. Vernon Davis has been a monster this season and his ability to grab balls in tight spaces makes him a deadly Redzone target. It seems like everything has finally fallen into place for Davis, which is bad news for all opposing defense. If the 49ers can keep up the high level of defense we saw today, this will be their division to lose.
Don’t buy into Ted Ginn’s huge day. He’s still a back up receiver and will only make plays in the return game. Despite the two return touchdown, he finished the day with zero catches and some drops.
So Dallas is pretty good..... until December.
Welcome back Greg Jennings. Jennings had a big day with 8-88-1, it was his first viable week since week 3. Coming up, Jennings draws Tampa, Dallas, San Fran and Detroit before a tough stretch during the playoffs. You should be able to rely on him for the next little bit but will be a nice sell high at the trade deadline if he can produce over the next few weeks.
It was a great day for running backs drafted in the first round. Chris Johnson, Maurice Jones-Drew, Matt Forte, LaDainian Tomlinson, Adrian Peterson, Steven Jackson and Frank Gore all finished with more than 15 points. See if you can sell high on Tomlinson now, he doesn’t get Oakland every week.
Ray Rice!!! He just can’t be stopped. Consider him an every week starter, if you haven’t already, as he will finish the year in the among the best RBs. His combination of strength and speed is unmatched by any running back his size right now. His versatility out of the backfield makes him a threat at any point in the game, regardless of the score. He has huge play ability and is showing it off every week. He just runs into the pile and comes out the other side. He reminds me of a young LT.
Can you name the two tight ends with 3+ TDs in the last two weeks? Vernon Davis is one.
Back To the Rams for a minute. If the Dan Orlovsky Safety summed up the 2008 Lions’, James Butler’s pick/safety may perfectly sum up the dreadful 2009 Rams.
Unless he’s on your team, you may not have noticed that Vincent Jackson is the number two ranked receiver for the season. People have been waiting for him to catch up to his talent for years and it seems it has finally happened. He may be having the most under the radar season of any player in the NFL.
Terrell Owens scored on an end around in the first quarter against the Texans but finished with only 5 catches for 39 yards. Unfortunately for Owens’ owners, 38 yards is a game is a great day for TO these days.
Consider Tony Romo a top five option at QB from here forward, until around mid-December that is. With Romo throwing to him, Miles Austin can now be considered a low end number one receiver. See if you can pick him up for cheap from an unsuspecting owner. Try offering Donald Driver, Santonio Holmes or another name value, mid tier receiver, you’ll probably get him.
Packers’ tight end Spencer Havner has three touchdowns in the last two weeks. Don’t buy into it too much, he’s only getting reps filling in for Jamichael Finley and if he doesn’t score he’s useless.
Injuries
Kevin Smith (shoulder) Smith was six yards away from having a stud day but got banged up in the second quarter and left the game in the third. Lions coach Jim Schwartz said Smith could have come back to play but he didn’t, so that’s concerning. Maurice Morris did the fill in work for Smith and actually looked pretty good against the Rams. If Smith is out for any extended period of time, the 1% owned Morris is the pick up.
Owen Daniels (ACL) Owen Daniels tore is ACL in the game versus the Bills and will miss the rest of the season. This is a huge hit to all of his, Matt Schaub and Andre Johnson owners. Daniels was the number one ranked tight end for the year and now defenses will be able to key on Johnson exclusively bringing his value down along with Schaub’s.
Since most sane people do not carry a spare tight end, Dustin Keller (56% owned), Visanthe Shiancoe (66% owned), and Todd Heap (40% owned) could all make nice fillers if they’re available in your league.
Anquan Boldin (Ankle) Boldin left the game again this week with his perpetually injured ankle. He’s killing all his owners by playing and then leaving. He finished the day with one catch for five yards. Not what you expect from the explosive Boldin. Hopefully the Cards give Boldin a week or two for rest so he can be at full strength for his spicy match ups weeks 15-16, St. Louis and Detroit. If he does miss time, see if you can get Steve Breaston, he’ll be highly productive in Boldin’s absence.
Jake Delhomme (Chest) This may actually be a great thing for the Panthers. It’s not known how long he’ll be out but he looked to be in serious pain.
Pick Ups of the Week
Ryan Moats (0% owned) While it is unknown what role he’ll play going forward, he’ll at least be the handcuff you’ll want to have if you own Steve Slaton. Slaton should eventually regain his starting role but in the mean time Moats should vulture touches away. He finished his huge day against the Bills with 23 carries for 126 yards and 3 touchdowns.
Vince Young (3% owned) Vinsanity has come back to Tennessee as Young seems to be over his case of dark thoughts and ready to be a quality fantasy asset again. He will be relied on to be a game manager but can make plays with his feet, which is highly underrated feature for a fantasy quarterback. The now 1-6 Titans have a pretty manageable schedule going forward and Young can be a quality match up play off your bench.
Michael Crabtree (39% owned) With six catches this week, Crabtree is doing better each week and could be a nice depth add for the playoffs. From weeks 12-16 he gets Jacksonville, Seattle, Arizona, Philly and Detroit. Only the Eagles pose a serious threat to his production.
Mark Sanchez (48% owned) The Franchez plays much better with Jerricho Cotchery in the lineup. Period. He seems to have gotten over his terrible turnover problem and has shown an ability to score with his legs. He’s on bye next week but gets the Jags coming off the bye, he will be a great play in that game.
Jonathan Stewart (83% owned) Another two touchdowns against the leagues best rushing defense basically should have him at 100% owned, but he’s not. If you’re in one of those 17 % if league where he’s unowned, get him now.
Jeremy Maclin (36% owned) While he can’t be trusted week to week, he’ll be good for some scores in the pass happy Eagles’ offense. He can provide some bye week help to your team if needed.
